New SLCC board member appointments announced

Four new SLCC board member appointments have been announced by the Cabinet Secretary for Justice, Michael Matheson.  The appointments, of two lawyer members and two non-lawyer members, are for five years and follow on from three previous appointments in 2016.

Sara Hesp is a qualified Chartered Surveyor and a member of the First-Tier Tribunal for Scotland (Housing and Property Chamber). She has worked across Scotland as an independent adjudicator, resolving disputes between landlords and tenants. 

Denise Loney is a solicitor in practice with a background in civil litigation, who served as a member of a Law Society of Scotland Client Relations Sub-Committee dealing with complaints against  solicitors. She is also a part time tutor of the Diploma in Professional Legal Practice at the University of Glasgow. 

Sarah Mcluckie has held management positions within the NHS, for the Parliamentary and Health Service Ombudsman, OFGEM and the Independent Chief Inspector of Borders and Immigration. She currently works as the operations manager for the Mental Welfare Commission for Scotland. 

Kay Springham QC is an advocate who has acted on behalf of, and against claimants in a wide range of civil cases.  She has a particular interest in human rights and equality.

SLCC Chair Bill Brackenridge welcomed the appointments, “Our new board members join us at a interesting time in the SLCC’s history – we are in the first year of a bold four year strategy, there are some very important legal debates around how complaints should be handled and there is a very real possibility of a review of the legislation which founded us. We became a 50:50 by 2020 partner last year and these appointments contribute further to the growing representation of women on public boards in Scotland, and in the SLCC in particular.
