SLCC Budget for 2015-2016 laid before Scottish Parliament
The Scottish Legal Complaints Commission (SLCC) has laid its budget for 2015-2016 before the Scottish Parliament.
The budget, prepared after a consultation with the Law Society of Scotland, the Faculty of Advocates and others, outlines the proposed expenditure and funding for the year from 1st July 2015 to 30th June 2016.
There is an overall reduction of 2.5% in the budget, due to a decrease in both staff and non-staff costs. This has led to a reduction in the levy of at least 4% for all practitioners with a greater reduction for those parts of the profession that generate relatively fewer complaints: advocates (6% reduction) and in house lawyers (10% reduction).
The SLCC has also recognised the complaints levy as a source of income in calculating the budget for the first time. This is the levy which is charged when a complaint is upheld against a firm or practitioner.
