SLCC Partner with The Yard as its Staff Charity
The Scottish Legal Complaints Commission (SLCC)’s staff have chosen The Yard as their staff charity for their 2015-16 year.
The SLCC, which receives, resolves and investigates complaints from the public about lawyers, chooses its charity for the year by a staff vote and this year, The Yard was the winning charity.
The Yard is the only indoor and outdoor adventure play centre for disabled children and young people (ranging from 2 to 25 years of age) in the East of Scotland. It offers play and youth work sessions to around 2000 disabled children and young people and its centre in Edinburgh is open seven days a week throughout the year.
The Yard has been running for almost 30 years and works with special schools, runs family sessions, holiday playschemes, pre-school sessions and youth clubs. It also provides training sessions in inclusive play for organisations and play practitioners.
SLCC CEO Neil Stevenson commended the choice: “I am very excited we have picked a charity with such immediate, life-changing and visible impact. If you ever need uplifted then the sheer joy on the faces of those who get to play, and see their children play, at The Yard is a powerful reminder that small things can have great impact. I am proud of our staff team selecting something so in line with our values; recently arriving in the organisation I’ve been just amazed at their energy and enthusiasm for their work, and it’s no surprise to me they have picked a charity all about lively celebration in an environment where everyone is safe and respected. We are all looking forward to fundraising and learning more.”
Celine Sinclair, CEO of The Yard said: We are delighted to have been chosen as Charity of the Year by the SLCC. The SLCC’s support will directly help provide care and support to the children and young people and their families who use our service. For these children one of the greatest barriers to enjoying life is loneliness and social isolation and our services help to alleviate some of this through supporting disabled children to make friends and have fun. We hope the staff at the SLCC will enjoy working with us throughout the year, and will have a lot of fun raising funds for the families who use our service.
The partnership follows a successful year for charity fundraising at the SLCC, with £2,245 raised for the previous staff charities.
