SLCC seeks next Chair, one lay and one legal member to join board
The SLCC is looking for its next chair plus one lay and one legal member to join its board in the coming year.
The SLCC provide a single point of contact for all complaints against lawyers in Scotland. It investigates and resolves complaints about service and refers conduct complaints to the relevant professional body for investigation.
SLCC members play an essential dual role. In addition to forming the governance board of the organisation, they also make important decisions on individual complaints. Legal members play a unique role in chairing determination committees, which must have a lay majority.
The SLCC would welcome members from any background, and as a small and focussed public body the role can be a fantastic first step into remunerated non-executive appointments.
The appointments come as the SLCC looks to build on strong improvements in performance in recent years. Members will help to shape the future for the organisation over the coming years, while ongoing discussions about regulatory reform provide an opportunity to influence the system for the next generation of lawyers and the public.
Successful applicants will also have the chance to build their governance skills in a smaller public body and to build their networks in the justice, ombudsman, regulation, consumer and public body sectors.

Jim Martin, Chair of the SLCC said, “This is an exciting and rewarding time to join the SLCC. While these have been challenging times for all organisations, there is much the organisation has to be proud of, and much good work to build on. We need diverse thinking and different perspectives and talents to deliver our role, so I would strongly encourage anyone interested in these appointments to apply.”
The deadline for applications is 28 July 2022.
