SLCC welcomes new lay board member
A new SLCC board member has been appointed. Thane Lawrie joined the SLCC board on 1 February 2025. The appointment is for five years.
SLCC Chair Jane Malcolm welcomed the appointment, “I’m delighted to welcome Thane to join our board at what is a key time for the legal sector as legislation to reform regulation completes its parliamentary scrutiny. Thane will bring a wide range of key experience to our work as we look ahead to implementing much needed improvements to the complaints system.
“As well as driving the strategic direction of the SLCC’s work, board members make decisions on individual complaints, making this a unique, varied, challenging and rewarding role. I know all the board and our staff are looking forward to working with Thane over the coming years.”
Biography
Thane brings a wealth of experience to the board having worked in leadership roles across the third sector and public sector. For seven years he was the CEO of a charity called Scarf, which focused on helping people who were experiencing fuel poverty.
Prior to his time at Scarf, he worked in a variety of roles, which aimed to support those experiencing problems with alcohol and drugs. Thane was the strategic lead for the Angus Alcohol and Drugs Partnership, which coordinated the region’s response to these issues across all agencies. Prior to his work in Angus, he managed frontline drug and alcohol services in Aberdeen and also worked as a university researcher studying alcohol and drug services.
Thane in currently a Non-Executive Director of the Scottish Ambulance Service, Chairman of The Haven and Vice-Chairman of Scarf.
