Thanks to outgoing SLCC Chair Jim Martin
The SLCC Board and staff wish to record their thanks to Jim Martin, who steps down as Chair of the SLCC Board on 31 December 2022 having completed his statutory five year term.
Neil Stevenson, Chief Executive said, “Jim joined the SLCC in January 2018 bringing significant experience in complaints, governance and improvement.
“The challenge and risk appetite he set with the Board helped to create the conditions for significant improvements in our performance during his tenure. That this was maintained during the pandemic is testament to how strongly that approach to improvement has been embedded in the organisation. This was reflected in the Holyrood Public Service Award the SLCC won in 2021.
“Jim has also been a tireless voice in the reform debate, challenging all stakeholders to deliver reform that meets the needs of today’s consumers and legal services sector.
“During a time of significant change for the SLCC, Jim also ensured the SLCC was prepared to implement new powers granted to it under the Legal Services (Scotland) Act 2010, and to seize the opportunity to respond positively to the lessons of the pandemic in delivering a new operating model for our staff, IT and property.
“Our thanks go to Jim for his service, his support and his challenge, and we wish him all the best for the future.”
Jim Martin demits office on 31 December 2022. From 1 January 2023 Vice Chair Niki Mclean will become acting Chair of the Board. Niki brings extensive experience of complaints handling within ombudsman, as well as having led improvement work on complaints processes across the Scottish public sector and beyond. She is a member of the UK Administrative Justice Council. Her early career was in HR and organisational change. A further recruitment exercise for a permanent new Chair will be run via the Public Appointments process in 2023.
