We’re running 184,000 yards to raise the money, but there’s only one Yard that counts!
10 members of the Scottish Legal Complaints Commission staff team are running the equivalent of over 100 miles at the Edinburgh Marathon Festival in May. The combined effort includes a relay team, half marathon and full marathon runners, all in aid of the staff charity for the year ‘The Yard’.
The SLCC are welcoming sponsorship and donations for this fantastic cause – which can be made via https://www.justgiving.com/SLCC-staff-charity-2015-16
The Yard is the only indoor and outdoor adventure play centre for disabled children and young people (ranging from 2 to 25 years of age) in the East of Scotland. It offers play and youth work sessions to around 2000 disabled children and young people and its centre in Edinburgh is open seven days a week throughout the year. It also provides training sessions in inclusive play for organisations and play practitioners.
Celine Sinclair CEO of The Yard said "We are delighted to be partnered with SLCC this year and wish them every success with the Edinburgh Marathon in May. It is a real privilege for us to be the focus of their efforts and I really hope that friends, colleagues and fellow runners will join us and show their support for the team taking on this 100 mile challenge."
Explaining why the charity and the Edinburgh marathon were picked, Jamie who is a Case Support Officer at the SLCC explained “As a small staff team we wanted to support a smaller charity this year, where we knew our fundraising would make a big contribution, and which we knew has a big local impact. The Yard was a perfect fit, and their sense of energy and enthusiasm was something we instantly picked up on. To fit with that, and our own culture here, we wanted to do something energetic, but also challenging – and the marathon proved a popular choice with colleagues.”
