The Scottish Legal Complaints Commission, the independent body for complaints against solicitors, advocates and other legal practitioners in Scotland, has announced the appointment of Neil Stevenson as its new Chief Executive Officer.

Complaints arising from Family Law transactions account for one in five of all complaints made in Scotland about solicitors. In response to this, the Scottish Legal Complaints Commission has released a guide for consumers, aimed at helping them avoid running into difficulties with their Family Law solicitor.

Complaint numbers fall, but figures indicate that poor legal service in Scotland is still a concern

The SLCC is funded by a levy paid by legal practitioners operating in Scotland. Under the terms of the Legal Profession and Legal Aid (Scotland) Act 2007, we are required to consult with the relevant professional organisations about our proposed budget for the next financial year. Following the consultation, the budget will be agreed and laid before the Scottish Parliament.
